DO
YOU KNOW ?
Bar soaps or cleansers contain
ingredients such as lard and
tallowate (fats) to help them keep
its solidified shape. Such
ingredients result in irritable
skin, clogged pores and breakouts. |

|
Is your face really
cleansed? – The Basics |
| |
Introduction |
 |
|
Have you ever
wondered why some faces are flawless like porcelain, while
others are pimply with scars? You might say it’s an issue of
genetic endowment, or even the ability to afford expensive
skin care products or treatment. Well, the first good news I
want to tell you is – Anyone CAN have good skin. The second
good news is – Anyone CAN AFFORD to have good skin. |
| |
|
Our skin is a
result of what we eat and how we treat it. In fact, it is a
very good indicator of deficiencies and illnesses within our
body systems. Hence, a bout of rashes or even a simple
pimple on the face can tell you something about your body
system. |
| |
|
Healthy skin
starts from within. The importance of nutrition can never be
emphasized enough. However, what I wish to focus on is on
the basics of skin health routine – Cleansing. Whether
you’re young or old, man or woman, you can do your skin a
big favor by cleansing correctly. |
| |
| |
Cleansing – The Foundation in
Skin Health |
 |
|
Do you know
the consequence of not cleansing your face correctly? Well,
it is not life threatening, except that all the old surface
skin cells, grime, sebum secretion, dirt, dust, make-up and
bacteria etc will accumulate on your face and they will
start clogging up your facial pores. Your skin will not be
able to “breathe” properly, and its functionality is
impaired. The end result? – Problematic skin and Premature
aging. |
| |
|
Now, we do not
want that, do we? Our face is exposed to a barrage of toxins
and environmental damage on a daily basis. It must withstand
pollution, ultraviolet rays, wind, and debris, as well as
the harmful chemicals in 99% of all skin care products and
cosmetics. Even certain food we consume might bring up
certain allergies or rashes on our skin. I would consider
our face to be our most important and delicate asset. The
least we can do is to clean it well and thorough. So how do
you do that? |
| |
| |
How to choose? |
 |
|
For effective
cleansing, select a suitable cleanser and toner. |
| |
|
Choose a cleanser
that is gentle, detergent free and without a strong
fragrance. It is not recommended to use soap for facial
cleansing, as it might contain fragrance or harsh chemicals,
which can be drying and not suitable for the face. |
| |
|
Choose a toner
with nourishing ingredients that soothes the skin, close
pores after cleansing and stimulates healthy cell renewal.
It is not recommended to choose one that contains mostly
alcohol, water and fragrance. |
| |
| |
Directions: |
 |
|
1 |
Wash your hands thoroughly before you cleanse your
face. This is to ensure that you will not be working
dirt into facial skin. |
 |
|
2 |
Use a shower cap or headband to secure hair away
from the face. |
 |
|
3 |
First rule for a clean face – remove your makeup
thoroughly. Apply cleanser onto dry facial skin with
dry fingers. Work in gentle circular motion in
upward and outward movement to massage the cleanser
onto your face and neck area. The gentle circular
massaging strokes will help to improve circulation
and loosen old surface skin cells and grime. |
 |
|
4 |
Wipe away the residue on face with tissue paper. |
 |
|
5 |
Wet your fingers, and apply a small amount of
cleanser on your fingers. Work in gentle circular
motion as in Step 2 to massage the cleanser onto
your face and neck area. Remember to focus on your
T-zone area, especially around the nose area. |
 |
|
6 |
Rinse with lukewarm water. Hot water dries and
damages skin over time, and cold water will not
dissolve and take away embedded dirt and grime as
well as lukewarm water. |
 |
|
7 |
Don’t forget to rinse off cleanser from the neck and
hairline. Cleanser residue can clog pores and
attract dirt. |
 |
|
8 |
Gently blot off excess water with soft towel or
tissue paper. Do not scrub dry or drag towel/tissue
paper along skin. |
 |
|
9 |
Follow immediately with toner to remove any
lingering impurities and restore the pH balance on
the skin. |
 |
|
10 |
Saturate a cotton pad with toner and lightly pat
over face and neck to “wake up your skin”. |
|
| |
|
Now, your skin
is thoroughly cleansed and prepared to receive topically
applied nutrients such as moisturizers. |
| |
| |
Conclusion |
 |
|
Judging from the 10 steps above, it might seem that there
are many steps towards proper cleansing. Actually, all the
above steps can be done in less than 10 minutes. Remember,
you have to protect and pamper your skin right if you want
your face exude its natural radiance. And Cleansing
correctly is the first step. |
