DO
YOU KNOW ?
Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) is one
primary exfoliating ingredients used
in the market. However, there is a
risk of UVB sun sensitivity
following its use. Hence a sunscreen
with UV protection is highly
recommended. |

How to maintain
clean and healthy skin? |
| |
Introduction |
 |
|
If you have read my earlier article on ‘Is
you face really cleansed? – The Basics’,
you would have realized that cleansing is the first and most
important step in your skin care routine. Many of us may have
neglected this basic routine, by just cleansing with water, or
not removing make-up properly.
In this
article, I would like to dwell further into steps beyond
cleansing to maintain your skin. This is because cleansing does
not remove the dead skin cells on the top surface of your face,
which dulls your skin. And if you do not effectively remove the
dead skin cells on your face, the first thing you will start to
notice is that your face starts to ‘smell’, especially around
the nose area! For the ladies, you might know that the effect of
applying make-up on our face is hampered by the accumulation of
dead skin cells on our face. The worst is when the piling of
such ‘rubbish’ clogs our facial pores. That would mean the
beginning of our skin problems.
Hence, what
we are going to focus on here is to show you the fastest and
easiest way to give yourself a fresher look through exfoliation
and facial masque. It will be like having your own facial spa
treatment at home, and yet saving on all the costs of going to
the professionals. |

Exfoliation – Scrub away the rubbish! |
 |
|
Exfoliation
is essential for skin health. When you exfoliate your face
properly, you are able to improve your skin tone and allows for
moisture, which will develop plumper cells and reveal a layer of
healthy bright new skin cells.
Applying the
masque helps to tighten the facial pores. It can also make the
skin feel softer and boost the effectiveness of moisturizing
products by helping them penetrate more deeply.
So, just a
few key benefits at a glance…
-
Regulates oiliness and clarifies skin texture
-
Aids in
shrinking large pores
-
Helps to
dry up pimples
-
Reduces
appearance of blemishes and blackheads
-
Removes
dead cells and impurities
-
Replenishes vitamins, minerals and moisture

How to choose? |
 |
|
What is
considered a suitable scrub and masque?
Choose a
scrub that will not cut or damage your skin. You might be
surprised to know that some scrubs use ground up walnut shells,
sea shells or plastic as their scrub instrument. These are far
too abrasive for our delicate facial skin, as they result in
small scratches to our skin.
Choose a
luxurious creamy masque that is non-drying and yet, removes
impurities and renew the skin by replenishing the vitamins,
minerals and moisture back onto our skin. |
| |
| |
Directions: |
 |
|
1 |
Moisten your face with water before exfoliating. |
 |
|
2 |
As the skin on your T-zone area is thicker, apply a
thin layer of scrub on the T-zone area first, then
onto the entire face and neck area. Avoid the eye
area as the skin under the eyes is very thin and can
be easily damaged. |
 |
|
3 |
Wet your fingers. Work in gentle, small circular
motions in upward and outward movement to massage
the scrub onto your face and neck area. Focus more
attention on your nose area where blackheads often
appear. |
 |
|
4 |
Leave on your face for about 3 – 5 minutes, then
gently and thoroughly rinse off the scrub with warm
water. |
 |
|
5 |
Gently blot off excess water with soft towel or
tissue paper. Do not scrub dry or drag towel/tissue
paper along skin. |
 |
|
6 |
Place a generous amount of masque from your
collarbone up to your forehead. Pay special
attention to your T-zone and sides of your nose. |
 |
|
7 |
Allow the masque to set on your face for about 15 –
20 minutes. |
 |
|
8 |
For easy removal, use a damp sponge or face cloth to
soften the surface, then gently remove using warm
water. |
 |
|
9 |
You will need to repeat Step 8 a few times before
the masque is completely removed. |
 |
|
10 |
Now, your skin is able to absorb moisturizing
products better by helping them penetrate more
deeply. |
|
| |
| |
Conclusion |
 |
|
This is not a daily
routine. All you need is about 30 minutes, 1 – 2 times weekly,
to let your face exude its natural radiance. It is recommended
that after you have cleansed your face with a cleanser, you
should exfoliate your face, followed by a masque, then a toner.
However, if your face secretes lots of sebum, I would suggest
you do the above 3 – 4 times a week. But shorten the time for
the masque to work on your face to 5 – 10 minutes. |
